Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci sparred in Wednesday’s Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing as Sen. Paul resurfaced his concerns of potential royalties being paid to FDA employees by pharmaceutical companies.
“We’ve been asking you and you refuse to answer whether anybody on the vaccine committees gets royalties from the pharmaceutical companies,”
Sen. Rand Paul
Sen. Paul’s repeated inquiries into the FDA and Dr. Fauci’s alleged conflicts of interest have brought awareness to the issue, but his Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests have been denied by Dr. Fauci.
“I tell you this when we get in charge, we’re going to change the rules. And you will have to divulge where you get your royalties from, from what companies, and if anybody on the committee has a conflict of interest, we’re going to learn about it. I promise you that.” pic.twitter.com/k0O6wVmLNt

Prior to his questioning, Sen. Paul played an interview of Dr. Fauci from 2004 in which he claimed that the strongest form of immunity for Influenza is to catch the virus yourself and develop natural immunity. Sen. Paul then questioned Dr. Fauci and on why he and the FDA rely primarily on COVID-19 studies for children that do not consider whether the child has previously contracted the virus.
Fauci: “That film that you showed was really taken out of context…Reuters fact-checked, looked at that…”
Paul: “Actually, words don’t lie.”
